Microsoft 365 price changes as of March 1st, 2022

As is currently being announced everywhere, there will be a price change on the current Microsoft 365 and Office 365 subscriptions. The price change will take effect on March 1st, 2022. This will immediately apply to all new contracts applied for from this date, existing subscriptions may be maintained at the current rate until June 30, 2022.

This means that making a decision before June 30 is desirable for current subscriptions.

Because not only the rates are being adjusted, but also the rules regarding some subscriptions. Below we list all the changes for you.

New rates

In addition to the price changes that take place, the duration of a contract also changes. Depending on which contract is chosen, the price will be different.

Microsoft has decided that everyone has a choice to choose 1 year (DNG-12), 3 years (DNG-36 only for limited products) or monthly (DNG-flex).

Some individual products, such as an Exchange plan 1, can no longer be purchased on a monthly basis and can only be registered for at least 1 year. The table below shows the different contracts and prices.

Microsoft will come up with a final pricing for each product, but we have already listed the most chosen products below. If your product is not listed here, please contact us, the price may not be known yet.

Questions answered

The changes mentioned above certainly raise the necessary questions, also with us as a partner. We have therefore already carefully selected a number of questions.

If your question is not listed, please contact us.

Why is Microsoft increasing the price of these Microsoft 365 and Office products?

This is the first substantive pricing update since Office 365 was released in June 2011, excluding FX adjustments. This change builds on the product innovation they have delivered over the past decade to meet the evolving needs of customers. Since the initial release, they have added 25 new apps (including Microsoft Teams, Power Apps, Power BI, Power Automate, Stream, Planner, Visio, OneDrive, Yammer, and Whiteboard) and more than 1,400 features.

What if I want to expand my existing seats (number of licenses of a product) in the meantime?

The end date of, for example, a 12-month subscription is then the same for all seats. If it starts on March 15, 2022 with 10 seats and it adds 2 more in June, these 2 new seats will also run until March 15, 2023. These 2 seats can also be purchased at the same price as the initial 10 seats due to the corresponding price protection within this 12-month subscription.

What if I want to downgrade my existing seats in the meantime?

This is only possible if you opt for a monthly contract.
With all annual contracts it is not possible to scale down to fewer seats, so if 10 exchange plan 1 licenses are required at the start of the annual contract, no fewer than 10 seats can be purchased during that year.
It is only possible to scale down after the period has expired.

Do I have to pay annually for all my products?

No, this is not necessary, the products can still be paid per month, only the contract duration changes.

I am a lot less flexible with my Microsoft 365 products, is there another way?

It is possible to purchase 2 different contracts within a product. For example: currently 12 Business Premium licenses have been purchased per month, of which 8 are always in use. Then it is possible to purchase 8 seats for 1 year (DNG-12) and 4 seats per month (DNG-flex) so that you can always cancel monthly with 4 seats, this makes it a little bit more flexible.

What will change for me on March 1st?

The current contracts will continue until June 30, 2022, they can no longer be adjusted and all new licenses ordered from March 1st, will only be available in the new contract form at the new rates.

What should I do now?

Think carefully about which contract suits your products and let us know your choice, then we will ensure that all contracts are converted to the latest licenses. If you are not sure which choice to make, please call or email us. We may be able to put together the most favorable package possible together.

When can/should I make my choice?

You can already pass on your choice from 1 February 2022, we will then already have the option to convert the current contracts to the new ones. We must have converted all contracts to the new forms and prices by 30 June 2022 at the latest.

What if I don't make a choice?

If we have not received a choice or message before June 30, the contracts will automatically be converted by us to monthly contracts because we do not want to involuntarily impose a year contract on you.
